Wapda Chairman Reviews Dasu Hydropower Project Progress

LAHORE, May 16 – Chairman of the Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda), Engineer Lt Gen (Retd) Sajjad Ghani, conducted a detailed visit to the Dasu Hydropower Project site, located on the Indus River in Upper Kohistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, to assess ongoing construction progress.

During the visit, the chairman inspected key components of the project including the *river diversion system, main dam, powerhouse, and the *relocated section of the Karakoram Highway (KKH-1). He was briefed by the project team—comprising the general manager/project director, consultants, and contractors—on site-specific targets and the status of their completion.

According to Wapda, construction work is currently underway at *20 different fronts, with steady advancement. Significant progress has been made on several critical components. Notably, **excavation work on both the right and left abutments of the main dam has been completed, while the *extended right bypass tunnel and right-side open channel are now ready for operation, facilitating the passage of excess water during the upcoming high-flow season.

The Dasu Hydropower Project is a key initiative in Pakistan’s efforts to expand clean energy generation and enhance water management capabilities in the region.
